Moby Thomas – Head of IT

This week we spoke to Moby Thomas, Head of IT at Simply Workflow.
Moby joined our team in September 2016 and currently works remotely from County Dublin.

Can you provide some details about your current position and what it entails?
My current position is Head of IT so I look after the information technology side of the company. This entails ensuring the IT Security of our company servers that house our valuable data and codebase and employee laptops. I manage these security measures to ensure that when someone is attempting to access our web applications, website, app, or system, they must go through a server gate. I am responsible for the management of our IT infrastructure, including server maintenance and ensuring optimal performance in terms of processing speed, power, and disk space. These efforts ensure that our users have a seamless and efficient experience when using our system.
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
That is a good question! When I was a child, I developed a strong interest in computers and thought that I might like to work in that area when I was older. It all kind of happened from there really. That initial interest ultimately led me to this career path.
If you could improve any skill, what would it be?
I would like to be better at cricket. I play cricket already, I would like to improve it though.
What three items would you take with you to a deserted island?
If I was stuck on a deserted island, I would take a laptop or mobile phone, I would prefer a laptop though so let’s go with a laptop. I would want the laptop to have some kind of built-in internet connection too so that would be my first item. Next, I’d make sure to pack some food and drinking water so that I wouldn’t be hungry or thirsty. Lastly, a tent or something like that for shelter and a safe place to rest.
Do you like travelling? – What’s the best place you’ve travelled to?
I do like travelling. My favourite place I’ve visited is the Ring of Kerry. I have been fortunate enough to have travelled there several times, the landscapes and villages make it an unforgettable place.
What superpower would you choose to have?
If I had to pick a superpower, I’d probably go with flying because it would mean I could go anywhere, the views would also be amazing. But honestly, I wouldn’t really want any superpowers. I must admit that I’m content being a regular human. I’m quite happy as I am now.
Pineapple pizza. Yay, or nay?
Yes, definitely. Where I’m from, we grow pineapples, so I am used to enjoying them straight from the plant since my childhood and I like the flavour. So, whenever I order pizzas and see the option of pineapple as a topping, I choose it.
