Can you tell me something exciting that you have worked on at Simply Workflow?

One of the most exciting projects that I have worked on at Simply Workflow was the integration for a smart metering client. It was an absolutely huge integration, by far the biggest integration of any of our instances. The flow charts stretched across an entire wall in their offices, emphasising the scale and complexity of the project. Not only was it a massive undertaking, but we also had the added challenge of completing it within a 3-month timeframe. We got it all done and tested every aspect of the integration to ensure it was working correctly and we met the deadline successfully.

What kind of work do you do and what are your main responsibilities?

I work primarily as a developer, but I do a bit of everything by taking on additional responsibilities to ensure smooth operations in our team when necessary. For example, When my colleague Moby (Head of IT) is on holiday, I step in to assist and provide coverage for him. The same goes for when Anne (our Customer Support Manager) is away, I help out in her absence, helping to take care of client support tasks.

Additionally, I handle the entire development of our system, which involves a wide range of responsibilities, I am responsible for pretty much everything on the system in terms of oversight and management.

What superpower would you choose to have?
If I were to choose a superpower, it would be the ability to sleep in any place at any time. Imagine the convenience of being able to relax and recharge whenever the need arises. I could always be well-rested and ready to tackle any challenge.

You can visit any fictional time or place. Which would you pick?

If I had the chance to explore a fictional time or place, my top pick would be The Shire from the Lord of the Rings. I’d be the tallest person there! But also. I would choose The Shire because I cannot imagine a place that is more relaxing and stress-free.

If you could get a new skill in 10 minutes, what would it be?

To play the flute, I’d like to be able to play a musical instrument because I can’t sing and I will never be able to sing but I could learn how to play an instrument. I probably should have said a programming language of some sort as it would be the practical choice, but I’d like to learn how to play the flute.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

I tend to have a bit of a conflict between my brain and my body when it comes to being a morning person or a night owl. Physically, I enjoy waking up early, getting a head start on the day, and being productive. However, my brain seems to prefer its active hours during the later part of the day. It’s only around noon that my brain fully wakes up and feels energised. As a result, my brain isn’t particularly keen on going to bed early, while my body appreciates a good night’s sleep. So, they definitely conflict.

What is your favourite sport and sports team?

My favourite sport is definitely Rugby and Leinster are my favourite team. I think I’ve seen every match they have played for the last 10 years.

Pineapple pizza. Yay, or nay?

God no, It should be outlawed. It is a fruit, why would it go on pizza, it makes no sense.

Thank you for reading this week’s Get to Know Us and a big thank you to Cathal for taking the time to speak with us. Come back next week when we will be chatting with Moby Thomas, Head of IT at Simply Workflow.
